403b vs. IRA

2012 Booklet
Our 2012 booklet is at the printers and we anticipate mailing in early December. Be sure to contact our office if your address has changed as we use a bulk mailing which will not be forwarded. You can send an email with your new address to stewardship@ssfoundation.net.

Website Updated
Our website has been updated with our 2012 booklet and questionnaire. You do not have to wait for your booklet to arrive in the mail because both the booklet and the questionnaire are available from our website at http://ssfoundation.net/pastors/?page_id=29.

HRA & MRP
Periodically the rules relating to a MRP (Medical Reimbursement Policy) or a HRA (Health Reimbursement Arrangement) change. For instance several years ago you could be reimbursed for non-prescription meds now you can only be reimbursed for non-prescription meds which you obtain
with a prescription. It is a good idea to check the latest rules and be sure your reimbursement
plan is up to date.

403b vs. IRA
During the past tax season we became aware of several pastors who were told to roll their 403b into an IRA. DO NOT roll your 403b into an IRA without calling our office first. At the risk of sounding like a broken record – your 403b has many benefits which an IRA does not. A pastor can save taxes both while contributing to a 403b and while withdrawing funds from a 403b during retirement. As an example: when you retire your 403b can be designated as housing allowance…an IRA cannot.

Sincerely,
James W. Rickard
