CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS
Please list your charitable donations on the questionnaire even if you do not itemize. The IRS will allow an additional deduction for donations during the upcoming tax season..

SCAMS
Those we serve, particularly older adults, are facing a growing threat from scammers.  If an unexpected caller asks for personal details, hang up immediately. Scammers rely on urgency and fear to make you act without thinking. Instead, verify the claim by looking up the official number yourself and calling the business directly. Always be skeptical of rushed, alarming calls

IRS NOTICE

Two important things to know if you receive an IRS notice:
1. Direct Deposit & Refund Delays
The IRS prefers direct deposit for all refunds.
  • If you didn’t provide routing/account numbers: You will receive an IRS notice requesting this info.
  • If you ignore the notice: You will eventually get your refund via paper check, but it will be delayed by about six weeks.
  • Need to speak to someone? The number printed on IRS notices is automated. To reach a live representative, call 1-800-829-1040.
2. When to Contact Us (Adjustments to Your Return)
Please contact us before paying any additional amount due or accepting an unexpected refund if the IRS is changing your return’s math or tax figures.
You do not need to contact us if the IRS is simply:
  • Requesting more time.
  • Asking for additional supporting documentation.
  • Sending a penalty notice for missing quarterly estimated payments.

CHILD SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER
Apply for your child’s SSN ASAP! You must have it before your filing deadline (including extensions) to claim the Child Tax Credit and Earned Income Credit. If you miss the deadline, you cannot claim these credits, even on an amended return.

Sincerely in Christ,

James W. Rickard
